Big Business in Logistics
Meaning of Logistics
Any business company will always use logistics in their transport operation of their goods or products, whether by land, air, or sea. Logistics is about effective and qualitative administration of transporting products from its source point to the point where the customers and corporations, in need of these products, are located. There is so much gain in business if the logistics is well-planned and well-supervised.
To implement effective logistics in your company, the foremost consideration is to locate a large place, which is a warehouse, where you can implement your logistic operations, such that your products can enter, be transferred from one area to another and packed before they go out of the place. Next on hand are the kinds of equipment to be used in handling the products in moving them from one place to another, like a 3 ton overhead crane, forklift trucks, or roll pallets. On the other hand, there is also need to put up with other forms of machinery and technology in the storing of other products like food items.
Inventory Management System and Information Technology
Information technology is so essential, nowadays, that any software can be programmed and applied to almost any kinds of processes; therefore, by investing on this and using the inventory management system, the daily logistics operations can easily be manageable at less cost. By combining inventory management system and information technology, a software has been developed called inventory management software, which accounts for inventory levels, orders, sales and deliveries. Most companies make use of this software to avoid product overstocking and outages. With this form of software, you can also apply other inventory systems such as, order management, asset tracking, service management, product identification, and inventory optimization.
Part of logistics, too, is the choice and investment of the right trucks to transport heavy load of goods without incurring damages. The following are the varieties of trucks, which are commonly used in logistics, semi-trailer truck, jumbo trailer truck, tail-lift truck, straight truck, truck trailer, and flat bed truck.
Types of Transport Trucks
The semi-trailer truck is considered the most common among the trucks since it is suitable for transporting majority of cargoes. Semi-trailer trucks has the capacity to carry a maximum weight of 24,000 kg and loading can be done from the back, sideways, or from above.
The jumbo trailer truck may also have a maximum capacity of 24,000 kg, but has more space and reduced wheels diameter than the semi-trailer.
The tail-lift truck advantage is that it has a lifting mechanism when it distributes the goods to its destination point.
Small items, furniture, home products and expedited freight deliveries are most often loaded in straight trucks.
For heavy volume of goods with a capacity range of 16 to 25 tons, a trailer truck is highly recommended.
Flat-bed trucks have similar loading capacity that of truck trailers and a better version.
